In 2016, we started the Guided Walking History Tour of Traverse City with the idea of doing a weekly guidedtour through the historic neighborhoods of Traverse City. The plan was simple: Anyone interested learning about Traverse City's early history would meet us at the Perry Hannah Plaza at 6th and Union on Wednesday mornings. No reservations were needed; the tour would be free and our guide would be compensated with gratuities from guests. There's no denying it was a little slow at first - many days only 2 or 3 people came on the tour - but we stuck with it - and by the end of the season we were averaging 6 to 10 people per tour.
In our next season we were confident enough to add a second day and moved the tours to Mondays and Tuesdays. As we became more well known through the season, we saw considerable increases in people taking the tour.
In 2018 we added another tour guide Debbie (who does our Monday tours) and offered tours by request. We were honored to conduct walking tours for over fifty US Coast Guard Air Wing veterans and their spouses who were attending their annual reunion, held in Traverse City last summer.
For 2019 we are adding a third day to our regular weekly schedule. We will conduct tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 2:00PM. Our season begins Monday May 20th and ends October 9th.
Hope to see you this season!
